Peak Technologies Launches Turnkey Solution to Help Chemical Companies Comply with GHS Regulation
New Solution Includes Consulting, Printers, Labels, Labeling Software and Support
Columbia, MD (March 18, 2014) – Peak Technologies, Inc. today announced that it has launched a new turnkey solution to help chemical manufacturers and suppliers comply with the Global Harmonized System of classification and labeling of chemicals (GHS). GHS is a worldwide regulation for classifying and communicating chemical hazards and establishes a base infrastructure for establishment of a comprehensive global safety program. Any manufacturer, supplier or user of chemicals must comply with GHS which covers all hazardous chemical substances, dilute solutions and mixtures.
The main components of the GHS regulation include hazard classification, modified safety data sheets, and compliant labels and formats. Peak Technologies’ turnkey solution has focused on the compliant labels and formats component of the regulation which needs to contain six different elements including the signal word, symbols (hazard pictogram), product name or identifier, hazard statements, and precautionary statements.
“We have seen a tremendous amount of activity in the last few months from chemical companies coming to us to help them navigate the new GHS labeling requirements and implement a solution that will allow for compliance with the GHS transition timelines,” said Tim Wills, vice president, marketing and support, Peak Technologies.
The Peak Technologies solution for GHS label compliance is uniquely constructed for each customer based on a number of factors including size of the label, print volumes, environmental conditions, host printing system and current printing equipment/methods. Based on these factors, Peak Technologies then develops a turnkey printing solution by selecting the right combination of label, printer technology, labeling software and ongoing support.
“The process of recommending the right solution for each customer’s unique GHS needs is fairly complex and requires a detailed working knowledge of label sizes, materials and substrates, media matching with the right ribbon, toner or ink and thermal, laser or inkjet printer technology, particularly when full BS5609 section 2 and 3 compliance is required for on demand two color labeling,” said Dennis Bonvouloir, vice president of global printer/media solutions.
