A major automotive aftermarket supplier needed a centralized enterprise labeling solution for its distribution centers that could integrate with SAP and utilize standalone legacy label printers. Peak Technologies delivered a solution that integrated with SAP and created labels on legacy printers across the enterprise.
Business Challenge
The company needed a centralized enterprise labeling solution for its distribution centers that could integrate with SAP and create labels on standalone/legacy printers. The solution required WYSIWYG label design, revision control, secure work flow processes for label publication, historical lookup of printed labels, and integration with SAP. Installation, training, and go-live support for multiple sites were also needed.
The Solution
Peak Technologies, as a Certified Enterprise Partner with Seagull Scientific, provided BarTender Enterprise Automation software licensing and maintenance, consulting, installation, training, and go-live support services for the company. Peak Technologies also provided training on document work flow handling, security control, and label design/revision control to allow the company to replace disparate labeling software in use with one – BarTender. To integrate, XML files generated by SAP were dropped to a network file folder on a VM server at headquarters.
Results
The company was able to implement a single labeling software solution while maintaining centralized control of label design, implement a secure document control process, and provide a scalable enterprise labeling solution integrated with SAP. Use of Seagull Scientific print drivers made it possible to create one label format that accommodated printing to any Windows®-compatible printer without having to import formats into SAP. The company leveraged XML as a common (and certified) approach, along with integrating SAP to other systems. The cost to implement SAP was reduced by off-loading services to Peak Technologies and leveraging BarTender software and its SAP-certified integration. In addition Peak Technologies provided a tailored front-end application leveraging BarTender to suit packing workstation requirements at disparate sites that were not directly controlled by SAP.
